Thiruvananthapuram: The city has got its biggest skill development centre under the ministry of skill development & entrepreneurship (MSDE)’s flagship scheme – Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). The centre at Pothencode was inaugurated by A Sampath MP.
The 15,500 sqft centre, the largest in the state, has been set up by e-Tech Education & Skill Development. Way-line Management Consultants is the training partner who will support e-Tech Education to enable a large number of youth to take up industry-relevant skills training to secure better livelihood.
Inaugurating the centre A Sampath said, “There are lot of employment opportunities in niche segments in various sectors in India and abroad. More than 250 courses under PMKVY caters to many of these niche segments. Therefore it is a great opportunity for the youth of Kerala especially from rural areas to study these courses which will open for them employment opportunities not just in India but also abroad.”
PMKVY, started under the aegis of National Skills Development Corporation, has over 250 skills development courses. Of these some selected courses like assistant electrician, CCTV installation technician, front office associate, documentation assistant, tailor, field technician, computing and peripherals will be taught at the Pothencode centre.
Government of India will bear the expenses of these courses under this scheme. These courses are open to youth aged between 18 to 35 years. “The PMKVY Scheme is aiming to provide training to around 3,000 youth in each district this year. On successful completion they will be placed in reputed organisations in India and abroad.” said e-Tech managing director Noushad A R.
