Skill development for farmers

KAYING, Apr 9: A skill development cum farmers training programme on agro-horticultural crops under BADP was organized at Kaying by the Department of Horticulture.
The training programme was materialized out of the 10 percent training component under the 2016-17 BADP Scheme pertaining to Kaying Payum CD Block.
Siang Deputy Commissioner Rahul Singh had earlier directed the Horticulture, Agriculture, Veterinary and Fishery heads of departments to prepare Action Plan in order to get allocation of fund for the implementation of the programme. DC Singh also exhorted participants to make best use of the training and of the materials given free-of-cost to the participants, and also alerted the trainees that random inspection will be undertaken to assess the outcome of the training programme.
Attending the programme, Power Minister Tamiyo Taga urged the farmers to adopt best practices to get maximum and better quality production. He also opined that youths should invest energy in self-sustaining works for their livelihood.
Altogether, 75 farmers, chosen from different blocks on the basis of their performance in the field of Agriculture and Horticulture attended the training programe, which consisted of best cultivation practices of orange, large cardamom and paddy cum pisciculture.
