The significance of skill development for economic growth and the initiatives being taken by the government in this direction were highlighted by speakers at a meeting organised at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) in the city.
Addressing the Indo-Global Education and Skills Summit and Expo, organised by the Indus Foundation, ASCI chairman K. Padmanabhaiah, emphasised the need to focus on skill development in all sectors.
“We need skilled manpower in all sectors that are key to overall development,” he said, highlighting the contribution of IITs and polytechnics. He underlined the need for internship programmes in all courses.
Telangana Industries and IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said the Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge, in association with industry, was engaged in creating skilled manpower. Telangana, he added, offered skilled manpower to companies setting up operations in the State.
Secretary to Andhra Pradesh Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Ghanta Subba Rao highlighted the initiatives of the AP Skill Development Corporation.
Indus Foundation Chairman C. D. Arha Nasscom vice president Sandha Chintala, COO of Kerala Academy of Skills J. Harikrishnan and president of the Foundation S. B. Anumolu spoke.
