In this video, Jose Cayasso talks about the mistakes he made, the hard lessons he had to learn, and how they translated into the success of this new company. He will be talking about three specific mistakes in this video, On his first company, 00:40 1- Outsourcing the development On my second company, 02:06 2- Undefined terms that led me to owe $15,000 Finally, on Slidebean, 04:53 3- business model iterations While this didn’t kill the company, it was a very close call.
On the company I started in 2012 we did have a good vesting agreement in place, but failing to define salaries spiraled badly. I ended up with about $16,000 in credit card debt, which may not sound like a lot to you, depending on where you live… but 23-year old me, living in Costa Rica where the salary that I could aspire to was $12,000 a year- it looked like I was going to spend the rest of my twenties paying that back. Let’s start with stock and vesting. Once again, if you don’t understand how stock works, you should check out this video.
